A Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is a Special Care Nursery that provides critical care to premature babies and sick newborns.
There are currently four NICU's islandwide. However, the ZBEF mission supports the NICU at the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI).
Government subventions and private endowments are simply not enough to balance the high needs associated with running this medical facility. Therefore the NICU depends on private and NGO entities such as ZBEF to help.
100% of ZBEF contributions are in support of the NICU at the UHWI. In collaboration with the hospital's medical staff, ZBEF carefully selects projects that are responsive to their urgent needs.
